As Director of Marine Operations, Steven leads the PLA’s main operational areas, which includes marine services, civil and marine engineering, hydrographic services, and the port’s corporate risk and compliance function. He managed the port’s marine infrastructure, significant vessel fleet and salvage operations, and delivery of major projects. He has a strong focus on environmental issues and is passionate about conserving and improving our rivers. Prior to the PLA, Steven was Maritime Director & Harbour Master at the Port of Tyne for the preceding 5 years. Following a seagoing career and a subsequent role as a harbour pilot, he worked in the consultancy sector with DNV GL, working on various marine projects, including a period of secondment to an international oil major. Steven has held a number of voluntary roles including being a Trustee of the Tyne Rivers Trust. Steven is a Master Mariner and Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute.
