Mike Kane

MP, Shadow Minister (Transport)

Mike Kane was first elected as the Labour MP for Wythenshawe & Sale East in a 2014 by-election, He was appointed Shadow Minister for Aviation, Maritime, Space and Security in 2020 and reappointed to this role in September 2023. Prior to this he served as Shadow Minister for Schools from 2016 to 2020, and Shadow Minister for International Development between 2015 and 2016.

Mike was born and raised in his constituency, which is home to Manchester Airport and after leaving school, worked as a labourer, a primary school teacher and before his election worked for Labour MPs, James Purnell MP and Johnny Reynolds MP. Mike Kane is Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Holy See, The APPG of the Chagos Islands and an Officer of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the Irish in Britain. He founded Catholics for Labour and is a member of the Catholic legislator’s network.
